when peter and nicole vahn were married it was like newly weds from a movie. they were so lovey dovey, so in love, so gross with pda it embarrassed their friends. they were completely blissfully unaware of everything that went on around them. they were both in their early twenties and way too young to be married, both of their parents thought twenty two was too young for such a commitment, but neither of them cared, and just ran off to vegas and eloped. they had decided a child was far too much responsibility for them, and decided to spend a few years married before taking the big step and having a kid. well surprise surprise for the vahns. a couple months into their marriage nicole found out she was pregnant – and it wasn’t pretty. she considered an abortion, adoption would be too difficult for her, and there was no way in hell they could look after a kid, looking after themselves was hard enough, but peter, peter wouldn’t hear any other options besides keeping the baby. after long, loud screaming matches at each other, threats of divorce, and the occasional object being thrown at peter, the two decided to keep the baby, after all they were married.
nicole was only eight months pregnant when she was rushed to the hospital after going into labor in the middle of dinner with her parents. peter was stuck at work freaking out at everyone while nicole was in immense pain. by the time peter got to the hospital and to nicole, she was holding the little screaming bundle of joy with a head of white blonde hair. it was such an amazing moment for the two, watching emma’s little hands open ad close as she stretched and wiggled in nicole’s arms. peter suggested emily as a name, but nicole thought of emma, and well she looked more like a emma then a emily. from the moment she was born, nicole and peter knew that their daughter was going to be a hand ful. her bright blue eyes sparkled with mischief, and she always had this little smile that made her look like she was up to something even though she couldn’ do anything but cry and giggle.
emma was born and raised in vancouver. nicole and peter had originally just lived outside of vancouver when they first got married, but decided it would be better to live in the city with emma incase anything happened, that way they could get immediate help and going to the grocery store didn’t take a forty minute drive like it did before the two moved. anyways growing up emma spent most of her time at her gramps and grans (nicole’s parents), because nicole and peter had to work longer hours to be able to afford having emma. not that emma minded, she was too young to care, and her grandparents loved her and spoiled her to death. she got whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted no matter what. it was just the typical grandparents who spoil their grandchildren and then say “don’t tell your parents i bought you the candy” kinda thing. like emma and her parents, nicole was completely fine with the idea of leaving emma at her parents while she and peter worked, but peter wasn’t too fond of it. he feared emma wouldn’t feel as comfortable around him and nicole when she was older and wanted to spend more time with his baby girl.
she was placed in day care once school started, and peter still didn’t like the fact she wasn’t at home with a parent after school but knew that there was nothing they could do. he was a little worried that emma wouldn’t get along well with the other kids when she started school because she didn’t spend much time with kids when she was younger, and he feared she would boss them around and fight with them. well nothing could be farther from the truth, emma came home from school loving it, she was the girl everyone wanted to be friends with, they were all just naturally attracted to her, and she was just so fun and friendly. it was like all through elementary school too, although emma got in some trouble for being too loud in class, talking and just causing some trouble. but her parents didn’t care, she was just a kid and that’s what kids did.
in high school emma was still the friendly approachable girl she was in elementary school, but high school was completely different than elementary school and it soon changed emma. she had never been super confident, but never insecure, but high school, it made emma feel so insecure. she was shy, quiet and just not herself for the first bit of freshman year and people started to notice. if she knew why she got all insecure, she would have told you but emma had no idea. she got back her usual confidence when she made the girls soccer team, and when she started to notice how guys started to notice her. emma somehow made it through all of high school with a boyfriend. she never really liked dating, it got awkward and personal but she just couldn’t say no to being asked out. she wasn’t skanky, she didn’t put out, she didn’t even get why but she just found herself always with someone. another thing emma found out was how much she liked to party – like really party. she was a mess whenever she went out, she drank way too much, got crazy, took a million sloppy pictures of herself, all that. it was good she was always dating someone because they were the ones who ended up taking her home and taking care of her. peter and nicole would have been furious if they knew what their daughter was up too (and maybe it was a cry for attention from emma) but they were too busy with their own problems. the once happy couple wasn’t so happy, and the fact that peter was going to be relocated after emma’s senior year to seattle didn’t really help anything.
emma had always planned on going to mcgill, it was far from home and she only had to be eighteen to get into bars – plus it was mcgill and had an amazing business program, but when she found out she had been wait listed her whole life crashed down around her. she had tried to ignore her parents constant fighting figuring she would be off halfway across the country in a few months and wouldn’t have to deal with it, but when she found out she probably wouldn’t, she kind of freaked. she needed to just get away, her social life was all messed up, especially when she found out her boyfriend of almost two years was cheating on her, her parents were driving her crazy with all their fighting, and she had only applied to one school. she had no idea what to do, until her parents sat her down and told her that peter was going to seattle and not coming back – her parents were for sure getting a divorce. “i wanna live with dad” were the first words out of her mouth. not because she didn’t love her mom, but seattle was somewhere she could just forget everything that had gone wrong here in vancover, and emma was closer with her dad. she was actually pretty excited for the move, more excited than she thought she would be. her dad had a nice house waiting, and to emma’s pure surprise, she had been accepted to the university of seattle – even though she sent her application way after the deadline, and only did it because she didn’t think she would get in.

ever since he got to miami, owen had felt out of place. he had sand everywhere somehow, even though he hadn’t been on the beach. we face was red from a sunburn, and he had got a disgusting tan line from his recently bought birkenstock sandals. it was hot, humid, and too sunny for owen’s liking, but he would put up with it all to see bridget, because it had been way to long since he had seen his best friend, and he needed her right now. the whole i’m fine act he had after his mom passed away was nothing close to the truth. he was broken up in side, he would have ended up like his dad, but owen knew one of them had to be strong, so he stepped up and tried to help his father, too bad his dad just drank and while owen was fine at first, he couldn’t take care of his dad and eventually he needed to get away. get away from everything in ireland because everyone he cared about seemed to be leaving him. bridget, his mom, if his dad hadn’t gotten help and kept drinking, well owen would have been an orphan. he wasn’t too thrilled about the flight to miami, he was just thinking something along the lines of going to france or germany and sight see a bit, but when the mulligans had said bridget was in miami, well he knew there was no where else he wanted to go.
since he landed in miami two days ago he had the weirdest sleep pattern ever. owen was the kind of guy who stayed up until two in the morning (he used to bar tend) and then sleep until noon the same day. but of course miami was behind in time than ireland and he was nowhere near getting used to the time change. he slept at eight one night and woke up at four in the morning, wide-awake, wanting to go out and do something. he had gotten better than the first day, but the jet lag was still pretty bad for owen, especially as he found himself waking up at a ridiculously early time this morning. “oh fuck.” he muttered as he woke up and rolled over on his side to look at the clock beside his bed at the hotel he was staying at, brining the covers with him. the tosseled haired, sleepy eye man sat up and rubbed his eyes and yawned deciding if it was worth it getting out of bed or not. but his stomach gave a loud grumble and he knew he needed food. he slipped off the white, comfy hotel bed and headed to the washroom for a shower.
he took a quick, hot shower, not wanting to spend too long in the shower because he hated the feeling when you spent too long in water and your hands and feet got all wrinkly and pruney. turning the shower off, he grabbed a white towel and wrapped it around his waist and headed out to his room where he grabbed a pair of regular jeans and a grey and white stiped polo. after he had changed, he rubbed his towel on his hair, drying to dry his hair before going out. his wet hair looked tousled and slightly un kept which was just fine for owen. he grabbed his cell phone and headed downstairs to where the recption desk was and handed over his keys before heading outside of the hotel. he looked out in the bright sun light and grabbed his black aviator sunglasses from his pocket, thankfull he had remembered them. looking around, he headed down the street in search of somewhere to get coffee.
owen walked maybe a five minutes before he came along to a starbucks. grinning he walked in and over to the counter. “um, i’ll have a large – no, venti?” he asked a little confused as he looked around the store. “tell you what. i just need a coffee, it doesn’t matter what size, i don’t understand everything here.” he joked and grinned at the girl behind the counter as he reached for his wallet in his back pocket. “don’t worry. my treat.” she blushed a little and handed owen a coffee and a flirty smile. “really, thanks.” owen beamed, knowing that the whole i don’t know too much of this, and letting his accent be heard always worked. he wasn’t a bad person who always tried to manipulate girls to give him free drinks, he just…he didn’t know. he was about to go sit outside when he felt his whole brody freeze over. bridget was there. sitting at a table with a paper and a drink. her long hair had been chopped off and now she had it chin length, and her face seemed a little more narrower – just from growing up i guess. it had been what close to ten years since owen had last seen her, in person that is, and she didn’t look any different. well she did, she was hotter than ever and own couldn’t get his brain to think straight. his legs seemed to move on their own and soon enough he was standing at bridget’s table, and she hadn’t even noticed. she was too caught up in the paper. so owen cleared his throat to get her attention. regretting it instantly because he knew bridge didn’t exactly like to be interrupted.
“hey bridget…surprise” he managed to get out and a large grin. he didn’t know what else to say. his mind had gone blank again. “can i, ugh sit down?” he asked awkwardly as he looked around, making sure no one was making their way towards the table, because that would be awkward for owen if he had interrupted something. “or are you waiting for someone?"
